Alberto Manguel.

Born in Argentina in 1948, Alberto Manguel is a writer, translator, editor, and literary critic. In his youth, he was Jorge Luis Borges’ secretary, a formative experience that shaped his relationship with literature. After leaving Argentina in 1968, before the repression of the military dictatorship, he traveled the world and lived successively in France, England, Italy, Tahiti, and Canada, where he obtained citizenship. The author of a rich body of work, including essays and novels translated around the world, he has received numerous awards, including the Prix Médicis for Une histoire de la lecture (Actes Sud, 1998) and the Prix France Culture for Dans la forêt du miroir (Actes Sud, 2000). Having lived in France for many years, he was named an Officer of Arts and Letters in 2004. From 2015 to 2018, he directed the National Library of Argentina and now resides in New York. In 2020, he donated his personal library of nearly 40,000 volumes to the city of Lisbon.

 

He is the author of the preface to Face of the Twentieth Century, published by Éditions du Pacifique.

Ara Güler.

Ara Güler (1928–2018), nicknamed “the eye of Istanbul,” is undoubtedly the most influential Turkish photographer of his generation. In 1958, he became a photojournalist for Time Life, Paris Match, and Der Stern. His meeting with Henri Cartier-Bresson in 1961 marked a turning point in his career, and he joined the Magnum agency that same year. Photography Annual magazine named him one of the seven best photographers in the world. The recipient of numerous awards (“Master of Leica” in 1962, first prize for reporting from the Turkish Journalists’ Association in 1979, and “Photographer of the Century” in Turkey in 1999), Ara Güler has photographed iconic figures such as Churchill, Chagall, Dalí, Picasso, and Hitchcock. Through his lens, he captured everyday life in Istanbul and Turkey, leaving an indelible mark on the world of photography.

 

He is the author of Face of the Twentieth Century, Istanbul, and Sinan – Architect of Suleiman the Magnificent, published by Éditions du Pacifique.

Benoît Heimermann.

Benoît Heimermann is a passionate reporter and writer who finds as much pleasure in libraries as in the great outdoors, whether writing about adventures or long journeys. He has worked for Le Matin de Paris (1977-1985), Sport (1986-1987), Challenges (1988) and L’Équipe Magazine (1989-2014), while also working as an editor at Flammarion (1992-1998) and Grasset (1999-2012), and has been collaborating with Éditions Stock since 2013. Author of some fifteen books and half a dozen television documentaries, he received the Mumm Foundation Award for a series of reports on Muhammad Ali. He also chairs the Association “Sports Writers Association”.
