Do you know what sets Lisbon apart? Known as the city of seven hills, the capital of Portugal is surrounded by seven magnificent viewpoints: São Jorge, São Vicente, São Roque, Graça, Santa Catarina, Chagas, and Sant’Ana. In this watercolor work, Fabrice Moireau portrays these eminences crowned with castles or churches, its plains and hills, its network of steep alleys, and its colorful little houses. Under the delicate stroke of his brush, Lisbon comes to life before our amazed eyes.
The watercolor artist has managed to capture the timeless magic of the city, its unique atmosphere, and its essence. Every street corner, every architectural detail, and every scene of daily life are immortalized in this beautiful work. Lisbon is a place of historical wonders, eccentric shops, and trendy clubs. Thanks to the words and expertise of Gonçalo M. Tavares, a writer and epistemology professor in Lisbon, the past harmoniously blends with the present.

Fabrice Moireau, born in 1962, is a graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Arts appliqués et des métiers d’Art (National School of Applied Arts and Crafts). Inspired by his many travels, he creates sketchbooks that are both cultural and ethnographic testimonials. Passionate about architecture, gardens, and nature, he uses watercolors to capture the subtlety of light and the atmosphere of streets and landscapes.
His career took shape during his studies, where he excelled in observational drawing and trained as a stand designer/set designer, before creating his first travel journals for the Chaumont-sur-Loire Garden Festival. His approach quickly attracted attention, and his sketchbooks led to commissions for Vuitton and then Éditions du Pacifique, with whom he produced more than 35 art books devoted to cities and regions around the world, from Paris to New York, Lisbon to Provence.
Contemplative, Fabrice Moireau paints in situ, sometimes sitting for hours on a simple fishing stool, capturing the light, framing and details with precision. His works have been the subject of numerous exhibitions, about one per year, and reflect a sensitive and poetic view of the world.
Fabrice Moireau is the author of the following books published by Éditions du Pacifique: Berlin Sketchbook, Bretagne Sketchbook, Paris Sketchbook, Corse Sketchbook, Florence Sketchbook, Gardens de Paris Aquarelles, Lisbonne Sketchbook, and Normandie Sketchbook.
Born in 1970, Gonçalo Manuel Albuquerque Tavares is one of the leading voices in contemporary Portuguese literature. A prolific writer and professor of epistemology at the University of Lisbon, he studied physics, sports, and the arts before devoting himself fully to writing in the early 2000s. Since then, he has published novels, essays, poetry, plays, and unclassifiable works, which have been translated into some 50 languages.
His work, praised by José Saramago, Eduardo Lourenço, and Enrique Vila-Matas, has received numerous major awards: the Saramago Prize, the Ler/BCP Prize, the Portugal Telecom Prize, and the Best Foreign Book Prize in France for Learning to Pray in the Age of Technology.
He is the author of Lisbonne Sketchbook, published by Éditions du Pacifique.
