Ara Güler was born in 1928. In 1958, he became a photojournalist for Time Life, Paris Match, and Der Stern. After his meeting with Henri Cartier-Bresson in 1961, he joined the Magnum agency. In the same year, the English magazine Photography Annual named him one of the world’s seven best photographers. In 1962, he received the prestigious title of ‘Master of Leica,’ and in 1979, the first prize for reporting from the Turkish Journalists Association. In 1999, he was awarded the title of ‘Photographer of the Century’ in Turkey.
