Chien-Chi Chang.

Photographer

Born in Taiwan in 1961, he joined Magnum Photos in 1995 and became a full member in 2001. His work investigates the abstract concepts of alienation and connection, deeply rooted in his own experience as an immigrant. This perspective has led him to explore contrasting themes such as hope, darkness, and the constraints on freedom. His practice is profoundly engaged, documenting marginalized and vulnerable populations, including the Rohingya, victims of the war in Ukraine, and North Korean defectors.

He is the author of Bhutan: Portrait of a Kingdom, published by Éditions du Pacifique.
