Sophie Ladame is a French painter and illustrator specializing in travel journals and watercolors. She discovered her vocation at a very young age while traveling the oceans with her parents, particularly in the Pacific and the Caribbean, where she sketched the landscapes, daily life, and inhabitants of the islands she visited on makeshift paper.
After returning to France to study, despite a mediocre performance in her high school art exam, she continued her training at the Axe Sud school in Marseille. Her years of study were marked by long stays abroad, particularly in Singapore and the United States, where she began to make a living from her art.
Based in Paris, she collaborated with numerous press agencies and publishers, producing her first travel journal for Gallimard on the island of Réunion. Since then, she has published numerous illustrated books on her travels around the world.
Sophie Ladame is particularly interested in traditional sailing ships and navigation, experiences she combines with her talent for sketching from life. She has also worked on documentary films such as Maori by Michel Viotte and Ankor by Mike Horn, and in 2018 published the comic book Bleu Amer with Sylvère Denné. Today, she lives and works in Saint-Malo, continuing to travel the world and sketch it with sensitivity and precision.
She is the author of L’Ile Maurice Sketchbook, published by Éditions du Pacifique.
