Yvan Martial, born in Vacoas in 1942, has an unquenchable love for his native island, which, despite its small size, is incredibly diverse and serves as a true melting pot of civilizations (Asian, African, and European) and three major religions (Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam). He divides his time between his passion for the island’s history and his work as a journalist. A former editor-in-chief of L’Express, he currently contributes to various Mauritian and Parisian weeklies. Since May 1997, he has been publishing « Le Répertoire de la Presse mauricienne, » a reference work summarizing and indexing around four thousand local news items by keywords. He also oversees « La Gazette des îles de la mer des Indes, » a magazine dedicated to the history of Mauritius. Additionally, he has contributed to several collective works.
